My approach to teaching focuses on demonstration and technique. Students get a good understanding of the fretboard, shapes through scales and arpeggios. A wide range of styles can be covered to understand feel, groove and key stylistic features. Breaking down rhythms through quick yet effective exercises, mastering counting distinct rhythm combinations and how to use a metronome.

My laid-back demeanour as well as possessing a level of patience makes me great with students who may struggle and require time to perfect their technique and understanding. I will adapt my teaching or change it up to suit individual ability. I teach four and five string, fretless basses. I will also cover effects pedals, and amplification.

In a student’s first lesson, I will take the time to get to know the student and what they want out of the bass guitar. Learning about the student’s own experience with the instrument helps assess what level and where to start in the lesson.

I am a registered tutor for the RSL Awards syllabus, up to Grade 8. I will walkthrough and help them with practise and performance.the songs for exams. This includes the technical exercises and general musicianship questions.
 

I can transcribe music for my students, I teach music notation and sight reading. Tablature is generally adopted in lessons however it must be accurate.
